Artist Statement

By breaking the chains of a fully preconceived idea, my designs and paintings are evolving, and feel more natural.

My Artistic Style

The most significant aspect of my artworks consists of careful analysis of colors. I believe that it is the vibrant color and shapes in my paintings that leap out and grab a viewer first. Recently, I have incorporated valuable concepts in my artistic tool-belt – strong, geometric shapes, and color unity and temperature.

My Artistic Process

My creative process is as follows. First, I immerse myself in a thorough research of the project. Then, I meticulously apply this research by producing numerous complicated drawings. Finally, I refine these artistic pieces. By using the concepts of color exploration, shape manipulation and composition control I convey a feeling that interacts directly with the viewer’s.

A personal aspect of my paintings is the medium through which I work – primarily acrylic paints, and green “Frogtape” , usually over canvas. The frog tape  gives control, and allows me to focus on one shape at a time. It keeps me aware of how color and shape play off each other as balance is needed between these two vital elements. (This method of taping one shape at a time is time consuming, but I find it Therapeutic!)

The continued build-up of shapes creates a work which becomes complex in both structure and sculpture. These forms are carefully thought-out, and created, through my observing real-life shapes and objects, and Internet photos. From these observations I draw elementary forms and linear elements to achieve structure. Many of my pieces have one, two, and three-point intuitive perspective techniques. The elements of shape, value, color, and spatial organization are stressed to develop my painting. The angles and forms of the shapes give a clean modern look, and I am now enjoying this architectural aspect. The usage of positive and negative space composition, which can be easily observed in my “Pink Ball” painting, plays a major role in my creative works.

In all of my works, the viewer will note that simple shapes contrast with vibrant color distribution, giving a dynamic, but also a complementary, perspective . My deeply-rooted passion for color has definitely played a determining role in the creative process of the majority of my works. Very occasionally, I use a “color-recessive” process to enhance the details of the shapes, but more often, I work through the application of an explosion of color as influenced by my emotions and understanding of art. I feel this gives a dramatic and instant shot of emotion to the viewer. I believe that colors and shades, as well as shapes, are internally associated with emotions. Therefore, I strive to create compositions that explore and make use of colors and shapes to provoke and capture the attention of my audience.

I start with a continuous line drawing and then shade it by applying color to make it look more 3D. I have started to “play” a lot with color – this experimentation may lead me to a whole new process. You can already see the development in my paintings when I darken the colors of certain shapes so they appear to be going back into space: in some other areas I lighten colors which creates an illusion of depth in an interesting way. It lends itself to being graphic with a sense of three-dimensionality.

Quite often, my paintings express an imaginary fantasy world despite their precision and use of bold colors and geometric shapes, and I shall continue with this development.
